When words fail or fall short it is the silence that
speaks in its own language. Communication
beyond words is termed as silence. It is
no doubt a complete refusal to speak but it’s very interpretation varies - from
disapproval to appreciative, from reverent to baffled, from fear to abiding
love, from deep interest to awe.
Silence is considered as a magic comforter when practiced by
self. It has the power of healing and relaxation. It is a precious commodity difficult to
afford. But when it is between two
people, between a giver and a taker, it has its own meaning.
It can indicate respect, hostility, contemplation. It helps to avoid confrontations and
conflicts. It can heal ruptures and
rejuvenates, giving a more depth and stability for the bond shared. The beautiful language of silence has its
value only when it is interpreted in the right sense. But is it ever
possible?
Paradoxically, it is interpreted as something negative,
rude and is undesirable. The ambiguous act of silence can indicate disappointment,
letting the other know that they are wrong.
It is mostly used as an intimidation ploy to cut someone out of our
life. With holding the very response
that someone needs and wait for, gives a disconcerting feeling, inducing the
other to babble and back track nervously. With the discomfort of the unfinished expression of emotion, a mutual
resolution is impossible and the delicate bond shared between two individuals withers
away, leaving the taker unnerved and overwhelmed.
To conclude, silence is to speak quietly or not at all in
the face of doubt and mystery. It has
the power to get people to think or to act. But for sure it is the most
eloquent reply.
We’ve all had situations where we have felt
humiliated. Rather than diving deep to
unravel the meaning of that silence, it can be considered as a mere personality
trait and that can help to let go off the ill feelings.
It is no more a MAUNAM SAMMATI LAKSHANAM!
